The operation of the mechanism has started submitting infringement complaints of fundamental rights at the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum.

The creation of the Mechanism is part of the competences of the Fundamental Rights Protection Officer, who receives written complaints from citizens of third countries about alleged violations of fundamental rights by actions or omissions of public authorities, upon entry into the country and/or during reception procedures and/or during the process of granting international protection in Greece.

Any citizen of a third country can submit a complaint if he/she considers that he/she is directly affected by the actions or omissions of a public authority and considers that one or more of his/her fundamental rights have been violated due to said actions or omissions, upon entering the country and/or during reception procedures and/or against the process of granting international protection in Greece.

The Fundamental Rights Protection officer handles complaints confidentially, informs the complainants about the course of examination of the complaints and is informed about the progress of the complaints which he forwards for further examination to the competent bodies.
