The green park that “bloomed” in the neighborhood of Ampelokipi – See photos

One green park “bloomed” in Ampelokipi. It is that of “Elena Venizelou”, in which the municipality of Athens proceeded with aesthetic and functional interventions, with trees, bushes and colorful plants, in order to offer coolness to the residents of the area.

The park, with an area of ​​7,000 m2, is located in Kountouriotika, one of the most densely populated neighborhoods of the city. Redesigned from the ground up based on modern sustainability principles. The available planting surfaces increased and the plant capital of the park was enriched with 85 large evergreen and deciduous trees, 5,300 shrubs and 625 m2 of lawn.

According to the Municipality, multi-level interventions were carried out, with the aim of creating a diverse, friendly and safe public space for the environment and users. Bioclimatic and environmentally friendly materials, characterized by water permeability and naturalness, were used, while important infrastructures were created, such as “rain gardens” to manage rainfall.

Urban equipment was strengthened and its infrastructure was upgraded. Curbs and paths were rebuilt, while new cosmetic instruments, waste baskets, modern lighting and comfortable seating areas were installed. The park now has the infrastructure that ensures unimpeded access and movement for people with mobility and vision problems.

“Every park which is “born” in Athens, a great “breath” for those of us who live in the gray of the city”, said the mayor Kostas Bakoyiannis and added: “The park in Kountouriotika is once again becoming a part of our daily life and a valuable way out for anyone who wants to escape from the stress and noise of the city. A green point of reference, which supplies the densely populated neighborhood of Ampelokipi with more oxygen.”

For his part, the Deputy Mayor for Climate Change and Greening, Christos Tedomas, emphasized: “Athens is getting yet another modern and green park, with multiple uses for recreation and sports. A new green lung with quality constructions, complete urban equipment, modern infrastructure and functional spaces. Young and old now have the opportunity to take a big “breath” of coolness, taking a walk in the completely reformed “Elena Venizelou” park in Kountouriotika.
