On Friday, in the Turkish language, in the Mosque of the village of Pilima-Xanthi, unknown persons wrote threatening messages against the lives of the Imam, the Muezzin and the Waqf Committee on the outer walls of the Mosque as well as on the concrete pillars of the gate, as stated in a post on social media networking of the Muftia of Xanthi.

As pointed out, the threats and bullets were placed as a warning with a four-day deadline for the Imam, the Muezzin and the Waqf Committee to leave the Mufti and join forces with representatives of non-institutional centers.

In fact, the mufti of Xanthi speaks of a “serious threat and outright violation of the religious freedom of the Muslims of Thrace by foreign forces”, as well as “parastatal mechanisms that have nothing to do with Greece”.

The post of the mufti of Xanthi in detail:

Yesterday, Friday, September 29, 2023, we were informed with sadness that in the Holy Mosque of the village of Pilima-Xanthi, unknown persons wrote threatening messages in the Turkish language against the lives of the Imam, the Muezzin and the Waqf Committee on the outer walls of the Mosque as well as on the concrete pillars of the gate. . They also placed four cartridges wrapped and taped on the door of the courtyard as a clear message against their lives which refers to foreign parastatals.

The threats and bullets were placed as a warning with a deadline of four days for the Imam, the Muezzin and the Waqf Committee to leave the Mufti and join forces with representatives of non-institutional centers.

This is a serious threat and direct violation of the religious freedom of the Muslims of Thrace by foreign powers.

Following this, the Most Wise Overseer Mufti of Xanthi Nezden Hemseri immediately visited the Holy Mosque, where he himself found out the sad events.

He then turned to the Security Department of Xanthi where he reported what he found during his visit to the above site and requested the clarification of the case and the criminal prosecution of the perpetrators.

We expect the Greek State to implement the law and, above all, to protect the religious freedom of the Muslims of Thrace from parastatal mechanisms that have nothing to do with Greece. The Thracians, Christians and Muslims, are proud, hardworking, honest and democrats who have nothing to do with terrorist methods and extremes.

The Muftia of Xanthi receives moving messages of support from our Muslim fellow citizens who know very well that mosques are places of worship for Allah and not for politics. Our Mosques are places that unite, not divide.”
