Most of the schools in the urban complex of Volos are opening tomorrow
The residents of Volos live with problems in the water supply for the supply of clean drinking water for one more day. Despite the continuous efforts of the DEWA Meizonos Volos technical crews, it seems that the restoration of the major damages suffered by the pumping stations, aqueducts and the water distribution network from the Elias disaster will be delayed for a few more days. The lack of drinking water in homes and businesses is covered by free bottled water distributions.
Water reaches the taps for basic needs, but it is not potable, according to the analyzes of the chemical laboratories and the announcements from the Ministry of Health and the Municipality of Volos.
At the same time, as the days pass since the two successive catastrophic floods that swept Volos, the more the extent of the damage in the city, but also in its suburbs, emerges, since people were lost from Daniel and properties and entire structures in the area were destroyed.
In Volos, especially in the northern districts of Agia Paraskevi, Ano Volos, Kallithea, Phytoko, but also towards the center and west towards Palaia, Papadiamantis, Oxygono, Neapoli, the Old Port Authority people cannot realize nor what is happening, nor “where they are” since everything has changed.
Crews from the Region of Thessaly are working non-stop to restore, even if rudimentarily, the road access to Ano Volos, Agios Onoufrios and Anakasia via Iolkou street that “disappeared” from the waters of Krausidon, at the height of the Asklepiion of Ano Volos.
In Nea Dimitriada, since the “breaking” of the Anavros torrent, the residents are trying to put their flooded houses in order, while the historic beach-beach of Anavros has disappeared together with the traditional restaurants that were a point of reference for the city of Volos for over 100 years.
In the suburbs of Volos, Agria and Alykes, the situation is still tragic. In Agria, the mountains of mud have been moved aside and create a whole wall on the right and left to allow traffic on the coastal road, but the picture is heartbreaking from hundreds of damaged cars between soils or in the sea. The picture is similar in Alykes, where the waters that came down from the Panorama destroyed everything up to the beach, the masses of rocks and stones have closed roads and squares while the area still has no water supply.
Tomorrow, Monday, most schools in the urban complex of Volos will operate, but the University of Thessaly is facing serious problems with exam postponements, even online, since many professors and students do not have electricity and internet, as a result of which exams are cancelled.
Also, from tomorrow, all the schools of the municipality of Zagora-Mouresi will be open.
