Most of the schools in the wider area of Volos, under the responsibility of the municipality, opened in the morning
Problems continue for people in the wider area of Volos, who saw their homes, their businesses and their cars destroyed by the force of the water, lost in the sea or submerged in the mud and together with all this keenly feel the lack of drinking water which still afflicts thousands of its inhabitants capital of Magnesia.
The effort to clean up the city of Volos continues by dozens of crews of the Municipality of Volos in the districts that were most affected by the waters of the Krausidonas and Anauros streams that spilled into Oxygono and Nea Dimitriada and “drowned” entire blocks of buildings and came to sweep up to the center and the entire beach front of the city. Dozens of water tankers with cleaning workers wash streets and squares day and night to slowly restore normalcy to Volos.
But the biggest problems exist in the suburbs of Volos. Efforts are being made to restore Iolkou Street, which was lost due to the raging waters brought down by the Krausidonas, as the critical road artery leads to Ano Volos, Anakasia, Aidonofolies, Agios Onoufrios and many more suburbs and in general to Pelion.
In Agria the people on the beach, at the entrance from Volos, live a drama, since there is not a single house that has not been swept away and destroyed by the waters that rushed from the slopes of Pelion.
In this particular area, where the road opened only yesterday and the volumes of mud are like big mountains to the left and right, the images are incredible of the piles of damaged furniture and the clothes of people who lost everything. And the cars that are piled up and dismantled at the ends of the road complete the scene and show the extent of the destruction.
A similar scene exists in Alykes where hundreds of homes and businesses have been destroyed by the rushing waters that came down from the Panorama and overflowed from the adjacent stream which broke and washed away everything. There are still dozens of houses in the same area where the water has not yet been pumped out or debris and damaged cars cannot be removed.
In this setting, with drinking water not yet reaching the taps of Voliotes, despite the efforts of DEWA Meizonos Volos crews, most schools in the wider area of Volos opened in the morning, under the responsibility of the municipality and with the distribution of bottles of drinking water to the studentswhile, according to the mayor of Volos, Achillea Beo, where there are problems they will be solved immediately in cooperation with the associations of parents and guardians.
Today, for the first time this year, the schools in the Municipality of Zagora-Mouresi are operating.
Today, the new president of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, is visiting the “wounded” Volos together with the president of the party’s KO, Sokratis Famellos. The two of them will be found at the Krausidona bridge on Anapausesos Street, as well as at the 9th Primary School of Volos in the district of the Old Port Authority.
