For ten whole hours was forced to stay in a car 68-year-old, cancer patient, with coronavirus, yesterday Sunday in the courtyard of Chania hospital, waiting to empty a bed to be admitted to the covid clinic.
This unbelievable incident – indicative of the situation that prevails in the hospital of Chania, which has been working in a suffocating regime for weeks – brings to light zarpanews.gr after a complaint by the woman’s son, who accompanied her.
“My mother is 68 years old and is cancerous. She is undergoing hormone therapy while suffering from breast cancer. “He has been diagnosed with coronavirus for six days now, so we were told to go for tests on Sunday,” he said.
As he adds, the exams were not good, so it was decided that an admission should be made: “They left us waiting outside, they did not let us in. In the meantime it was raining. It was very crowded. We got in the car. “We stayed in the car from 10:30 until 8 in the afternoon, because we were told that at 8 he would empty the bed,” he emphasizes.
However, after 8 they were informed that in the end there was no bed: “They told me if I wanted to take her by car to Rethymno or Heraklion. If I want to wait there maybe empty something overnight. Or else I should go home and bring it again tomorrow at 4 at noon! ” emphasizes.
“They may not have a bed, let her lie down for a while while she waits? “To leave us outside all these hours, a woman with cancer, with bad examinations, completely weak who had to be admitted, to leave her in the cold with the air condition of the car?” wonders.
Zarpanews.gr brought the incident to the attention of the director of the institution, George Bea, who stated that indeed the occupancy of the clinics is at 100% constantly. As he stressed, when it is judged that he should be transferred to another hospital, this should be done through EKAB. Beyond that, unfortunately as he added, all the incidents that arrive in the last days, are very serious and are evaluated with care.
