The aesthetic upgrade and cultural prominence of the preserved monumental complex of Kato Mylon Mykonos and the surrounding area is now a fact.

The Municipality of Mykonos has completed a project in one of the most important landmarks of Mykonos and of our country as a whole.

The upgrade of the space was done with absolute respect for the authenticity, the monumental character and the natural beauty of the area. In the place where, among other things, cars used to be parked, today sidewalks, paths, and recreational and green spaces have been created.

The project, which was financed by the Green Fund, had received the necessary approvals from the Local Council of Monuments of the South Aegean, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades and the Council of Architecture.

The impressive windmills of Mykonos are built on a small hill, southeast of Chora between the picturesque Aleukandra and the district of Niochori. They are among the most photographed spots on the island, impressing every visitor with their volume and beauty.

There were ten mills in total, but today only seven are preserved. They were functional until the first decades of the 20th century, grinding with the power of the north winds the grain produced on the island.
