In practice increased road safety measures throughout the territory during period of the self-governing elections and the repeats of October 8 and 15, 2023, respectively, the Greek Police is proceeding.

The design of the measures is part of the framework of more specific orders and directions for increased presence and activity of the Traffic Services, so that they contribute to the creation of smooth and safe road traffic conditions and to facilitate citizens in their movements, as well as to the prevention of traffic accidents.

According to the police statement, the measures are gradually developed between 6 to 9 and 13 to 16 October, while they will escalate-peak during the hours-days of mass exit-entry of vehicles, from and to the major urban centers.

The planning of the measures was carried out by the Traffic Policing Directorate of the Hellenic Police Headquarters and includes the basic directions for the development of the measures throughout the country’s road network, as well as individual interventions, based on local problems and special traffic conditions that prevail, by wider area or region.

As pointed out by ELAS, special emphasis will be placed on the implementation of intensive and targeted controls mainly in places where increased delinquency and phenomena of dangerous violations are observed, with the aim, among other things, of observing legality as well as protecting drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

EL.AS recommends to citizens:

• Before traveling, to have their vehicle inspected and informed about the state of the road network and weather conditions.

• Be especially careful while driving and observe the rules of the Road Traffic Code.

• To respect the road markings and comply with the instructions of the traffic wardens.

• Do not use mobile phones or other distracting devices while driving.

• Not to consume alcoholic beverages if they are going to drive.

• To protect the children riding in the vehicle, using child seats.

• Must “wear” seat belts, just like helmets on motorcycles.

• Not to overestimate their driving skills and the technical capabilities of their vehicles.

• To respect and protect fellow passengers and fellow human beings who use the road network, driving their vehicle responsibly and carefully.
