Fredi Beleris hopes for a courageous judge who will withstand political pressure, as he says from the prison speaking to SKAI, a few hours before the start of his trial in Tirana
Tomorrow is a critical day for him Fred Beleris since his case is expected to be heard. THE elected mayor of Heimarra he spoke exclusively to SKAI through prison.
He hopes for a courageous judge who will withstand the political pressure, as he says from the prison speaking to SKAI, a few hours before the start of his trial in Tirana:
“Unfortunately, there is a targeting by the government, which completely affects the entire justice system, so that the decision serves political purposes, where these purposes are aimed at keeping the Mayor, who lost the election in the mayoral seat of Heimarra in order to continue his work, property theft, influencing and intimidating people so that they do not declare their Greek origin in the census that is already taking place”
Journalist’s question:
They accuse you of buying off voters in the municipal elections in May. Is there evidence that incriminates you?
Beleris: There is a human friend, partner of the police, convicted of fraud, drug user, who is the only one who actually says that this conversation took place. There are no videos. There are some taped moments which are cut and stitched..The indictment is flimsy. There is no indictment, there is no video where they said I was buying votes.
Journalist’s question:
So what is the purpose of the prosecution against you?
Beleris: Not to recognize the results of the elections. Because as you know, the stakes are high. We have already made complaints and are investigating large thefts of property belonging to the local Greek residents of the area. They think they should extend this situation as much as possible to cover things up.
Journalist’s question:
Did the diplomatic pressure of Europe and Greece towards Rama have any effect?
Beleris: I have not seen any sign in the Albanian government that it wants to come to an agreement. Mr. Rama thinks that the same situation will continue and there will be no consequences, so he does what he does, he breaks all the laws, he backs judges. He has a hate speech against us, against me. He’s trying to influence the Media, influence the courts… He’s breaking every procedural rule. It makes him mighty.
Fredi Beleris faces a prison sentence of up to 5 years. In the worst case scenario, the elections in Himara will be repeated with him remaining in prison.
