A “wound” was inflicted on the Larisa fishmongers the sweeping floods of the previous interval. With people expressing their fears of eating fish after contaminated waters ended up in the sea, sales of the particular product have declined.

Fishmongers sell fish and seafood from areas outside of Thessaly such as Halkidiki or Kavala, while the quantities they order are now smaller than usual due to the reduced traffic in the market.

As Mr. Christos Samaras, manager of a central fish shop in Larissa, reports on onlarissa.gr, “people were clearly affected and from the very first day they were asking”. However, most show confidence despite the claims of some that “the fish shops should be closed”, he adds.

Regarding the end of the… alarm, Mr. Samaras emphasizes that “it’s a matter of time and what happened will be forgotten”.

The same problem is faced by the fishmongers who sell fish in the street markets of Larissa, in fact they are forced to throw away their merchandise in several cases as the fish remain in their cages without being sold.
