On the last Saturday of November, probably on the 25th of the month, the enthronement ceremony of the new metropolitan of Thessaloniki Filotheos will take place, in the Cathedral of God’s Wisdom.

The bishop of Oreon Filotheos was elected by the Holy Synod with 77 votes as the new metropolitan of Thessaloniki. He was chief secretary of the Holy Synod. Theoharis Theoharis was born on July 9, 1977 in Chalkida. After his election, he received the wishes and blessings of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

The delay in his enthronement is due to the bureaucratic process.

His election must be published in the Government Gazette.

“The Church of Greece looked at his face with confidence and elected him because he was the best we had. He is a new link, in the chain of bishops. It is an honor and a blessing for such a man with administrative experience to serve his people”, said Metropolitan Varnavas of Neapolis – Stavropolis, who is currently acting as a substitute, on the radio station of the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency “FM 104.9”. of the departed Anthimos, although the archbishop of the metropolis of Thessaloniki is Hieronymos.

“The Archbishop assigned me tasks to help with liturgical life and order until the enthronement of the new metropolitan,” he explains.

According to Venerable Barnabas, the new metropolitan “is humble, with knowledge and with self-denial he will serve his new duties”. And he adds, that “the characteristics that Philotheos gathers on his face are a bouquet of virtues that wrap his face”. He also pointed out that his youth will contribute decisively to his ministry.

Metropolitan Mr. Varnavas has been in direct contact with the bishop all this time. “We are discussing the process, the organization of the ceremony. I believe that with his ministry he will seal the life of the city. The new bishop with mind, love and disposition will resurrect the creative union of the church with society. His enthronement is an important ecclesiastical but also social event because the church is based on society”.

In the meantime, on October 26, the official eulogy in Thessaloniki will be presided over by the archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Ieronymos, who is also the vicar of the Diocese of Thessaloniki after the resignation of Anthimos.
