Irini Melissaropoulou from Mytilini, who was arrested in November 2017 at the Hong Kong airport, having 2.6 kg of cocaine in her luggage, and whose case shocked public opinion at the time and received international dimensions.

The former model who now serves in EL.AS. had been unanimously acquitted in the High Court of Hong Kong by jury after 16 months in prison.

Her case was brought to trial in the Greek Courts as well, because, according to the Greek criminal law, cases against Greeks accused of violating the drug law abroad are always heard in the Greek Courts. The proposal of the district attorney was also exculpatory.
