The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has issued an emergency announcement for the vigilance of the public as well as health professionals, after finding that falsified (counterfeit) OZEMPIC was trafficked within the legal supply chain in EU countries (Czech Republic, Germany, Austria) as well as in the UK with a German label.

It was a product falsification at the level of safety features of the packaging and at the level of the medicine itself, since the inside (i.e. the pen) did not correspond to the real medicine.

It is important to clarify that in our country the authenticity control with the authenticity tape of the EOF remains (the system of security features has not yet been implemented) and also that it is not possible to supply drugs in a legal way from certified electronic pharmacies under conditions, it states the EOF.

Despite the fact that the specific event has not been identified in our country at the momentcontinues to be a case of a falsified drug entering the legal supply chain, due to the extraordinary demand created, following continuous illegal advertising in the press and social media, notes the Agency.

Moreover, it constitutes important warning of the risks to all parties involved with special reference to:

– To the wholesalers/pharmacists who make up the legal supply chain, in the sense of strained attention.

– To the “consumer public” who tries to get the product from abroad and even from the internet.

The EOF has informed in the recent past about the risks and briefly recalls:

– The press is called on, mainly through its websites, to withdraw any reference to this (or any other) prescription drug, in accordance with drug legislation.

– Consumers should be particularly cautious about the accuracy of the information reproduced in the press, as well as when purchasing the medicine in any way. It is reminded that behind illegal online offers there are criminal organizations.
