For Georgina, the witness reported that there was a coexistence of various medical issues that gave a clinical picture with epileptic episodes, arrhythmias and infection
The multiple deaths in the Daskalaki family “they should undergo extensive genetic testing” testified at her trial Roulas Pispirigou the Professor of Genetics at the University of Skopje Todor Arsovwho was examined as a defense witness for the accused.
In today’s proceedings, Mr. Alexis Kougias, who was reappointed yesterday by the defendant, was present in the defense.
The witness testified at the MOD that the loss of the three girls, combined with the health problem of the mother, who has reduced heart function, but also an incident of sudden death from a cardiac problem of a 50-year-old relative from the paternal side of the family, should have given rise to specialized gene analyzes, including the children’s parents, to identify gene mutations. “If we have multiple deaths in a family where we wonder if it’s criminal, we should have a genetic autopsy,” the professor said.
According to the witness, in the investigation “it’s not enough to look at DNA alone but at the whole genetic picture” so that you have “whole book”. The professor, in fact, speaking about gene control, brought as an example the case of the Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie.
For Georgina, the witness reported that there was a coexistence of various medical issues that gave a clinical picture with episodes of epilepsy, arrhythmias, infection, etc..
Asked by the defense about genetic testing of the heart done on Georgina nine months before she died, the witness replied that the very fact (of the control) indicates that there was a problem.
Alexis Kougias: Doctors came here and declared that Georgina, while having seizures, breathing and heart problems and being heavily medicated, “was fine”. Do you agree with this?
Witness: The whole situation gives an image of a seriously ill child.
Earlier, with the initiation of the process, Mr. Kougias asked for the floor and said he wanted to make a statement on her behalf “behavior of the president to the detriment of the accused”. In an intense tone, the advocate spoke about what followed his departure from the defense, stating that the president acts as his principal “as if she does not have the status of the accused and there is a trial in the Magistrate’s Court where there must normally be an advocate”.
He also commented that the three advocates I was appointed were not given all the material of the case file and of the hearing process and continued: “Except for one who went to visit the accused, the defense attorneys did not understand the role of defending a man charged with felonies, they did not ask for a copy of the case file but only the indictment and the inquest statement of the accused and they came here without realizing their role, to formally fill the position. And you, Mr. President, asked the accused to apologize without caring if she cooperates with the lawyers you appointed for her.”
Referring to yesterday’s meeting, during which the president checked the reasons cited by Mr. Kougias and his partner for their inability to appear after their re-appointment by Roula Pispirigou, the advocate said: “Yesterday you called my colleague’s dentist to see if she really had a problem and then to the Court of First Instance in Xanthi to check if I was there. what are you Gendarme; This behavior is extreme and unethical.”
Chairman: Have a request?
Alexis Kougias: I have not. If I had, I would have said so. I know Greek.
Chairman: We appointed counsel as required based on the list and a case file was given to the counsel.
Alexis Kougias: Were you not informed that they only took the indictment and the apology?
Chairman: No! Will I be informed what the advocates got?
The trial will continue on November 8.
