As of today, 40,000 new appointments are available for the month of February, for the vaccination of children aged 5-11, in Attica, which is showing increased demand.

In the mega Vaccination Centers “Prometheus” and Peristeri, new vaccination lines are added, in order to further accelerate the vaccinations of children in Attica.

It is recalled that the vaccine given to children contains 1/3 of the antigen of the adult dose and the regimen used is two doses with an interval of 21 days.

In case of disease before vaccination, vaccination at a dose of 3 months after the diagnosis of the disease is recommended.

In case of disease after the 1st dose of vaccination, vaccination is recommended not at an interval of 21 days but at 3 months after the diagnosis of the disease.

The total number of children treated in the territory remains constant at 90 to 100 children and ranges between 2% and 2.5% of the total number of patients, as stated yesterday during the regular briefing on the course of the pandemic, Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases B. Papaevangelou.

The hospitalizations of children, he said, mainly concern children under the age of 11, in younger children, while it seems that the vaccination of adolescents contributes significantly to the lower morbidity of this age group.

At the same time, according to Ms. Papaevangelou, the vaccination coverage of younger children, 5 to 11 years old, is being strengthened at a fairly fast pace, while with regard to children even younger, ie infants under the age of 5, the pediatric teacher Infectious Diseases Specialist and member of the Committee of Experts referred to a recent study by Professor Lipsitch from Harvard which reiterated the findings of previous studies and confirms that vaccinating parents not only protects themselves but also their children.
