The management people expressed the intention to proceed with the development of offshore wind farms in Greece of the Danish Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) at the event organized by the company for the opening of its offices in Athens, on November 9, 2023.
The “present” was given, among others, by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukouthe Director of Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) in Greece, Nikos Alagialoglou and the Chief Financial Officer of COP, Thorbjørn Lund-Poulsen.
The event was attended and greeted by the Ambassador of Denmark, Mr. Per Fabricius Andersen, who also cut the ribbon at the opening.
In his presentation, he referred to the benefits of COP’s investment in Greece and stated that he is confident that Greece will succeed in the field of wind energy.
“The call that the Greek government has addressed to foreign offshore wind companies is being implemented, since the investment interest is constantly increasing”, said the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukou and emphasized that the COP came to Greece to make investments and create a hub that will serve the company’s needs around the world. “It is very important to work with international partners, protagonists in the field of offshore wind, such as COP. I am glad that the COP is the first to respond to this call in our country. I promise that their trust in Greece will be justified and recognized. I congratulate you on your initiative“, write down.
“As a government, we have put the offshore wind farms at the center of interest and we are able to know the potential of the country and we already know the first areas for the development of the parks” he added and announced, at the same time, that an article will be submitted to the Parliament, which will provides that ADMIE should reserve 2 GW of electrical space to connect offshore wind projects to parts of the National Electricity Transmission System (NETS).
Finally, he noted that in an industry that is constantly developing, it is important to cooperate with international partners, so that international experience and technology can also come to Greece. This dynamic and international knowledge is identified with the potential of the country. “Investments in offshore wind provide added value to the national economy and the Greek workforce, while at the same time enabling the country to become a regional energy hub“, concluded.

We want to strengthen our presence in the country”, he commented. And he added that the installation of an offshore wind farm in Greece is a personal bet for him.
Accordingly, Thorbjørn Lund-Poulsen, Chief Financial Officer of COP, stated that “we did a survey before bringing the offices here to Athens.
We talked to people in the industry and saw that Greece has competitive advantages. Greece has invested in its workforce, providing it with a high level of education.” People here, he said, have knowledge and can take initiatives and responsibilities around the industry. “We also spoke with Deloitte (a company that provides financial, business consulting services) and they suggested the Greek market to bring our offices,” he noted.
Finally, he did not fail to mention that the company has a large presence and activity all over the world and now Greece is also at the center of their interest. With technology as their ally, they wish to develop offshore wind farms in the near future in the country.
