The municipality is moving forward with a breath-taking project, not only for Alimos, but for the whole of Attica, as by 2025 the radical renovation and at the same time the upgrade of the marina will have been completed. This is an ambitious plan, an investment that will reach 100 million and that will make the front of the Greek Riviera even more modern and high quality.
The planning of the renovation is now proceeding, with respect to the elegance and the environment, but also with respect to the investor in the conditions that the municipality of Alimos has set with previous decisions of the Municipal Council. Last Wednesday (2/2), the company that has undertaken the project and management for 40 years, presented to the Municipal Council of Alimos the design of the new marina and the architectural study. Analyzed all the parameters, answered the questions and listened to the proposals and positions of the citizens’ representatives.
According to the designthere will be a zone of shops and restaurants, hotel, pier, pedestrian and bicycle path, planting and increase of greenery, thus improving the microclimate of the city, tower of command and control of the marina, parking of 850 places with increasing perspective, construction vertical to Poseidon, downhill plantations that will “connect” the city with the marina, while the use of the swimming pool will not be affected, which remains integrated in the area.
The new marina will also acquire a cultural footprint, as it will house the Municipal Gallery, rich in works of the 20th century.
At the same time, it was clarified what in the previous period seemed to worry the residents more. And it concerns the buildings, as both the citizens and the municipal authority itself did not want to limit the horizon of the city to the sea. The volume of the buildings will be divisible and the buildings will be ground floor, ie up to 4.5 meters high, while where there is a first floor, the total height will not exceed 7 meters. In fact, given that Poseidonos Avenue is located at an altitude above the Marina, the walker as he walks will continue to see the sea almost along the entire length of the avenue, as is the case today.
“It is a pioneering project, friendly to the city, a marina open to the citizens, modern and beautiful, which will bring multiple benefits”, says the mayor of Alimos Andreas Kondylis to APE-MPE and immediately afterwards explains: “There will be a stimulation of the local market and at the same time Alimos enters the tourist map. It will become a pole of attraction, not only for our citizens, but also for visitors, for schools. But beyond that, the municipality will now be able to have revenue from the marina. Until today, the State did not pay the compensatory fees, it did not pay for the cleaning we do, for the maintenance, for the garbage, until we were taken to the courts. “Now the company that will have the management, has undertaken the obligation to pay the reciprocal fees”.
Another issue, which seemed to concern the residents, is the traffic and the possibility of increasing the load of the city, since the new marina will be a pole of attraction. “There will be traffic studies“we will protect the coastal zone”, the mayor of Alimos answers and among other things mentions the plan that exists for the public transport, which will move from the neighborhoods of the city to the marina and back to the neighborhoods, so that they do not have to take residents their car. “At some point we need to understand the philosophy of Sustainable Mobility. Let’s get away from the logic that every person corresponds to a car. It is not possible for everyone to come with one vehicle, nor is it possible to have as many parking spaces as the cars of the city, somewhere there is a limit “, adds Mr. Kondylis.
Alimos marina as it is today
Regarding the schedule, the mayor of Alimos says that the consultations and licensing will be completed by the end of 2022, when the works will start at the beginning of 2023. and will be completed in 2025. However, as the work progresses, the marina will gradually open.
According to the plan, there will be a reduction in the number of boats. Today, 1,100 boats are moored, while about 800 will be moored in the new marina. On this, Mr. Kondylis answers: “The reduction will consolidate the situation and improve the quality. If you want, this is also a stigma of the quality that the company aims at, it is a quality solution “.
In the end and in what this project will mean for Alimos, the mayor emphasizes: “It means a great upgrade in the quality of life, in the quality of our daily life, an upgrade of the city itself, which thus becomes a tourist destination in the heart of the Greek Riviera. It is a project with many benefits “.
