Eastern Thessaloniki: Farmers are preparing to unload their tractors in village squares

by

In the squares of the villages of eastern Thessaloniki – Epanomi, Vasilika, Mesimeri, Scholari – but also in Thermi, the farmers of eastern Thessaloniki will start gathering from tomorrow with their tractors, claiming a solution to the survival problems they say they face, due to, among other things of the increased production costs, but also of the compensation process by ELGA.

As the general secretary of the Agricultural Association of Eastern Thessaloniki, Kosmas Stefanidis, pointed out, the decision to “lower” the tractors and agricultural vehicles in the squares of the villages of eastern Thessaloniki, was taken yesterday by the representatives of the agricultural association. during an open meeting in Epanomi, which was attended by over 70 people from the primary sector.

The farmers’ coordination body is expected to be set up on Monday, in order to specify the details of their mobilizations.

“We are currently facing serious problems with production costs, with oil exceeding 1.5 euros and fertilizer prices more than tripling in one year.

In addition, especially in our area where vegetables are grown mainly and we do not have trees, which means that our compensation for the damages must be even more immediate, there is a big problem with ELGA. The measures announced for the agricultural sector recently, do not satisfy us. “We demand that care be taken to reduce the cost of electricity and fertilizers, that the adjustment clause be abolished, that the ELGA regulation be changed, which should be subsidized by the state, and that we be compensated 100%,” Mr. Stefanidis stressed.
