A total of 288 calls were received today by the Operations Center of the Fire Service due to the occurrence of stormy winds accompanied by heavy rains and storms in parts of the country.
Specifically:
• In the Region of Central Macedonia, the Operations Center of the PS received mainly in P.E. Thessaloniki, 270 calls and 165 tree cuttings and 27 object removals were carried out.
• In the Western Greece Region, the PS Operations Center received 8 calls and 6 tree fellings and 2 object removals took place.
• In the South Aegean Region and mainly on the islands of Syros, Rhodes, Kos and Karpathos, the Operations Center of the PS received 10 calls for tree cutting.
It is noted that, according to the updated Emergency Weather Deterioration Bulletin (EDEK) issued today by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), a barometric low from the north-northwest accompanied by a cold front is going to cause a worsening of the weather over the weekend, with gale-force winds in almost the entire country and locally heavy rains and storms in northeastern mainland and eastern insular Greece.
