Residents of the area were left without electricity for a while
Damage to greenhouses, olive trees and shops was caused by the tornado that “hit” Falasarna on Saturday morning. Speaking to zarpanews.gr, the deputy mayor for Civil Protection of the Municipality of Kissamos, Spyros Mavrodimitrakis, confirmed that the tornado damaged greenhouses, olive trees and shops in its wake.
“A couple of greenhouses have been damaged, a restaurant which is now closed but operates in the summer, trees have fallen and PPC poles have also been cut.”
As Mr. Mavrodimitrakis said, DEDDIE crews are at the scene while crews from the Municipality of Kissamos are also rushing.
At the same time, a grower in the area, speaking to zarpanews.gr, claimed that “around 10 acres of greenhouses have been destroyed and we also heard about Elafonisi. The tornado also uprooted olive trees.”
The residents of the area were left without electricity for a while, as damage was caused to the DEDDIE network, however crews of the service are on the scene and are restoring them.
As he told zarpanews.gr, the director of DEDDIE in Chania, Stelios Manarolakis, “two faults were recorded, one of which was related to a low-voltage network, but the crews are working to restore them and the power will be restored immediately”.
