Haris Doukas had his first acquaintance with the Cleanliness Directorate of the municipality of Athens.

The newly elected mayor, who will assume his duties at the beginning of the new year, met and talked with the workers, but also with the deputy mayor Nikos Avramidis and the managers of the departments.

Mr. Doukas was accompanied by the first municipal councilor of his faction, Roxani Bey, daughter of the late mayor of Athens, Dimitris Bey, who will take over as deputy mayor of Cleanliness and Recycling, as the new mayor announced today.

“I am very proud of the work you are doing. During my term of office the area of cleanliness will be a priority. The image of the municipality is you,” said Mr. Doukas, among other things, to the workers and then emphasized: “I know very well how difficult your work is and we want to provide you with all the modern means. Our aim is to implement an integrated recycling program, with the expansion of the blue and brown bins, the awareness of citizens and the adoption of “smart” waste collection methods”.

He added: “We want a clean and bright Athens. It is for us an emblematic goal and it is up to all of us to achieve it. The green transition starts here.”

The newly elected mayor also visited the new Waste Transfer Station, in the area of Eleonas, which will start its trial operation in a few days.
