Increased subsidies for the installation of heat pumps will be provided for by the new program “Execonomou”, with the aim of accelerating the transition from heating to oil.

This was stated by the General Secretary of Energy and Mineral Raw Materials of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Aristotelis Aivaliotis, speaking today at the conference on “Energy Security and Green Development” organized by the ministry.

THE energy saving is one of the pillars of the ministry’s strategy, developed by Mr. Aivaliotis. THE strategy also includes:

-The securing of electrical space for the installation of new RES units and offshore wind farms, with the addition of energy storage units and the development of international interconnections that will allow the country to become an energy exporter.

-The development of new energy production and storage technologies (hydrogen, biomethane, geothermal, biodiesel).

-The utilization of critical raw materials that are necessary for the energy transition and are available in the Greek subsoil.

-Ensuring a balanced energy mix that improves energy security combined with further de-dependence on Russian natural gas, whether it is transported through pipelines or in liquefied form.

-The carbonization of the islands which is also a “marketing” tool for tourism, with the aim of achieving climate neutrality as a priority in the smaller non-interconnected islands

-The concern for the cost of energy that ensures the wider acceptance for the green transition.

Mr. Aivaliotis also mentioned that the goals of the energy planning are extremely ambitious as to achieve them investments totaling 165 billion Euros are required until 2030, or 25 billion a year.
