An incredible accident happened at EPAL Vryson in Chania, when during the lesson a school board fell on a teacher and injured her.

The event is denounced by ELME Chania which, on the occasion of the accident, issued a statement in which, among other things, it refers to “the poor infrastructure of the schools”.

The ELME of Chania talks about buildings that have not been earthquake-proofed, while there is a lot of poor workmanship and damage” and adds: “The phrase “it was luck that there was no accident” is heard more and more often in the professors’ office, reflecting the collapse of public infrastructure and their discredit both by the government and by the municipal authorities, in whose responsibility the sustainability of the school buildings has fallen”.

Then in her statement she describes the incident:

“Sometimes luck is not enough to prevent evil from happening. Thus, the day before yesterday, the member of our union, deputy and elected Municipal Councilor of Chania, Verykaki Efstratia he was crushed by the school board at EPAL Vrison while he was teaching, as a result of which he was injured!

As emphasized in the epilogue of the announcement, “ELME Chania supports its colleague in every way, while denouncing the disrespect of public infrastructure, human life and work dignity. We condemn the injustice against substitute teachers, who, as second-class employees, are only entitled to 15 days of sick leave… Let’s not “go anywhere” in the schools either! Let’s not mourn a victim in order to sensitize the authorities! Safe buildings and decent structures for all, now!!’
