AADE urges recipients to delete the relevant message – Its announcement
Personal details of other debtors were also leaked in an email from AADE for traffic feeswith the Authority urging recipients to delete the relevant message.
In particular, in its announcement it is stated that in the context of the 2018 traffic tax certificate for 89,494 debtors, who they did not provide supporting documents for their exemption from the fees, the traffic fee notification messages to some debtors included – due to a technical failure – the names and usernames (not passwords) of other debtors. Immediately, AADE informed the Personal Data Protection Authority, as provided by law.
The recipients of these messages already receive an email from the General Directorate of Electronic Government of AADE, in which they are asked to immediately and permanently delete the messages in question from their inbox, pointing out that, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679, it is prohibited to retain, share and generally use information concerning other persons. Given that the messages sent by mistake do not contain access codes – passwords (which are kept in an encrypted form and are not recoverable even by AADE), nor debt information for the other debtors, which were included in these messages, there is no risk of further personal data being leaked. However, the General Directorate of Electronic Government of AADE will send instructions to the persons concerned, in order to change access codes, if they so wish. It is reminded that, as a measure of preventive protection of personal data, it is strongly recommended to change TAXISnet passwords frequently. For the incident, the Governor of AADE, Giorgos Pitsilis, ordered an urgent Sworn Administrative Examination to be carried out, in order to impose disciplinary responsibilities and to prevent the recurrence of a similar incident in the future. For any questions regarding the above, citizens can contact the Taxpayer Service Center of AADE: +30 213 162 1000, on working days and hours: Monday – Friday, 07:30 – 17:00. The General Directorate of Electronic Government of AADE apologizes for the incident and the disturbance it caused to the recipients of the said messages
