The relatives of the 57 people who lost their lives mourn the loss of their lives every day deadly train collision in Tempe. And some incidents highlight this loss even more.

In one of the wagons was 28-year-old Elpida Houpa, who lost her life in the accident, and tomorrow she would have received her degree from the School of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Her father is a tragic figure, who was called by the School’s secretariat, in order for someone from her family to attend to receive the degree of ill-fated Hope.

“What immediately dominated my mind was that while everyone will be in mad joy over their child’s performance and wish him a good career in life, I will be standing like a scarecrow with a lifeless piece of paper in my hands without a child to wish for. Someone took care of it,” wrote the 28-year-old’s father, Christos Houpas, in a post on social media and continued: “We will not go with my wife after all. It will be very painful for both of us. Her brothers will go who, due to her young age, have different tolerances,” he said devastated in his Facebook post.

“I was called by the Secretariat of the School of Architecture of AUTH to inform me that next Monday on 4/12/23 the degree awarding ceremony will take place and if anyone can attend to receive the degree of Hope. What immediately dominated my mind was that while everyone will be in crazy joy over their child’s performance and wish him a good career in life, I will be standing like a scarecrow with a lifeless paper in my hands without a child to wish for. Some took care of it. My wife and I won’t go after all. It will be very painful for both of us. Her brothers will go who, due to her young age, have different tolerances.”
