The Permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece convened for two days, on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 December 2023, under the Presidency of His Beatitude Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Mr. Ieronymos. The D.I.S. initially ratified the Minutes of Authorization.

During its Sessions, the I.I.S.:

  • She was informed about the text sent by His Excellency the former President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos, on the subject: “The institutional “testimony” of the Constitution for the cooperation of State and Church in the Games of the Nation” and expressed her pleasure and thanks.
  • He was informed about the issue of the marriage of same-sex couples and decided to monitor the issue and, depending on the developments, to be examined by the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece.
  • It decided to appoint the Steering Committee of the Ecclesiastical Central Finance Service (E.K.Y.O.) as follows: President: Rev. Metropolitan of Serres and Nigrite, Mr. Theologos, replaced by Rev. Metropolitan of Ilio, Acharna and Petropolis Mr. Athenagoros, and Members: 1) Rev. Metropolitan of Corinth Mr. Dionysios, deputizing under Rev. Metropolitan of Maroneia and Komotini Mr. Panteleimonos, 2) Rev.   • He approved, following the proposal of the Synodal Committee on Christian Education and Youth, the holding of the 3rd Panhellenic Conference of Executive Camps of the Holy Metropolises of the Church of Greece.
  • He was informed by the Synodal Committee on Heresies about the work and findings of the 3rd Pan-Orthodox Conference of Delegated Orthodox Churches and Holy Metropolises on issues of Heresies and Parareligion, which was held in the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, from October 31 to November 2 AD, on the subject: “Old Testament: Disputes, misinterpretations and polemics”.
  • He was informed about the work and findings of the 4th Monastic Conference, which was organized by the Holy Metropolis of Lefkada and Ithaca at the Holy Monastery of Faneromeni Lefkada, on the topic: “Orthodox Monasticism and the dangers of secularization”.
  • Approved the Budget of Income – Expenses for the management of the financial year 2024 of the Panhellenic Holy Pilgrimage “PANAGIA SOUMELA”.
  • He approved, in view of the Christmas holidays, the additional financial support of the recently affected Holy Metropolises of Thessaly, for the amount of 100,000 euros.

During the break of the Session on December 13th, the Most Reverend Bishop of Salona, ​​Mr. Ignatios, gave his assurance in front of the Blessed Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Mr. Ieronymos. Also, after the end of the same Session, His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece welcomed in the Hall of Cultural Events of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece second-year and postgraduate students of the Theological School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, who are attending the Canon Law course , and after welcoming them, he conversed with them.
