Seven new playgrounds were delivered by the Municipality of Athensn, in neighborhoods of Athens, enabling children to enjoy the game in modern, friendly and safe spaces.

The four of the seven new playgrounds, which were created through OPANDA and in their entirety meet the prescribed European specifications, are as follows:

  • In Neo Kosmos (Heliopolis and Menekratou), 658.15 sq.m.
  • Two playgrounds in Kolonos: Dodoni and Ioannina, with an area of ​​879.41 sq.m. and Xanthippi and Drama, with an area of ​​704.17 sq.m.
  • In Ellinorouson (Vlahaki and Martelau), with an area of ​​1,060 sq.m. (7th municipal community).

Through the company “ANAPLASI” of the Municipality of Athens, three additional, smaller playgrounds were created:

  • In the park of Cyprus and Patision, in Kypseli, where the old playground was replaced by a new one with new toys and constructions (6th municipal community).
  • In the Koropoulis park, in Sepolia (4th municipality).
  • In Drakopoulou Park, in Ano Patisia (5th municipal community), which was announced just last Wednesday, as part of the overall regeneration of the park.

In his statement, the Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakoyannis, emphasized: “The neighborhoods of Athens got more free, modern and creative spaces for play. Every new playground of the Municipality of Athens is accessible to everyone and designed to offer safety, joy and fun to children.”

Modern equipment and security

All playgrounds are designed to withstand damage, adverse weather conditions and vandalism. They are equipped to provide safety and prevent any risk of injury, while they are all accessible to people with disabilities.

Each playground is specially designed for individual or group play and is equipped with modern equipment, toys and structures to facilitate children’s socialization needs.

Their equipment covers activities such as climbing, sliding, swinging, swinging, etc. They have rubber floors that meet the specifications of European standards, have a landscaped and fenced area with metal fencing, adequate lighting and are accessible to emergency vehicles.

The new playgrounds ensure children’s contact with natural elements and focus on the environment, in accordance with the principles of sustainable design, both in terms of the materials used and in their specialized way of processing, ensuring the smallest possible environmental impact .

In all the playgrounds, the required urban equipment, such as benches, taps and waste bins, were installed by the Athens Municipality crews.

Three additional playgrounds are being completed in the next period

It is noted that three more playgrounds of the municipality will be put into use very soon. These are located in the following areas:

  • In Ano Petralona (Othrios and Troon), 789 sq.m.
  • In Kato Patisia (Paraskevopoulos and Giannari), 349 sq.m.
  • In Kolokynthos (Kifissou and Cleovidas), 890 sq.m.

These are in the stage of completion and with them the project of the playgrounds will be completed.
