The Coast Guard arrested a migrant smuggler in Kos, after a chase, at noon on Monday (25/12).

In particular, a patrol vessel of the Coast Guard detected a speedboat heading towards the shores of “AKRA LOUROU”, in the sea area northeast of Kos, with a number of passengers.

The patrol vessel used light and sound signals, but the speedboat operator did not comply, performing dangerous maneuvers with the aim of ramming the Coast Guard vessel. A pursuit ensued and the speedboat in question came to rest after striking the middle right side of the patrol boat.

Then, the 25-year-old operator of the high-speed boat fell into the sea, with the intention of escaping, from where he was gathered by the crew of the Coast Guard vessel and given first aid. With the berth of the patrol boat in the commercial port of Kos, the 25-year-old was transported by an EKAB ambulance to the General Hospital-Health Center of Kos for preventive reasons, from where he was discharged and transferred to the Pre-Departure Center for Foreigners in Kos.

The fourteen foreigners who were transported by the speedboat in question were transported by an EL.AS vehicle. at the Reception and Identification Center in Kos.

The Kos Port Authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, arrested the 18-year-old for violating article 30 of Law 4251/2014 (Immigration Code), article 306 of the Civil Code. (Report), of article 169 of the Civil Code. (Disobedience), of article 187 of the Civil Code. (Criminal Organization), of article 42 P.C. (Attempt) in conjunction with article 277 of the Criminal Code. (Causing Shipwreck) and article 83 of Law 3386/2005 (Illegal Entry and Exit from the country) as applicable, while the said means of transportation was confiscated.
