The threshold of the 4th investigator of Thessaloniki is expected to pass today, at 12 noon, the 44-year-old Norwegian who is accused of the murder of the 32-year-old policeman and the wounding of his also 32-year-old best man, after a fight, in the early hours of Thursday, in a bar in Thessaloniki .

Criminal charges have been brought against the 44-year-old accused for two felonies and two misdemeanors, while he remains in custody after his confession to the prosecutor.

The felonies concern the acts of manslaughter, committed and attempted (the second for wounding the best man and best friend of the deceased), while the misdemeanors are related to the illegal carrying and use of weapons and concern the palm knife, with which he committed the crime.

The 44-year-old defendant expressed his condolences to the policeman’s family through his lawyer, stressing that he did not act with homicidal intent. He also cited intoxication due to the consumption of alcohol, but also psychiatric problems that he claims he is dealing with, for which he allegedly receives a benefit from the Norwegian state. Regarding the issue of his alleged mental illness, he asked the investigator to order a relevant expert opinion.

It is recalled that during preliminary investigation, the Norwegian testified to the police that there was a verbal confrontation, which sparked a discussion regarding the differences between his homeland and our country. The perpetrator initially stabbed the 32-year-old best man and when he went to intervene, the police officer attacked him with the same knife in the neck, fatally injuring him. Regarding the knife, he reportedly said that he carries it with him for self-defense.
