The Traffic Accident Control and Prevention Team (OEPTA) of the Attica Traffic Directorate carried out numerous checks between December 24 and December 29, as part of the Hellenic Police’s holistic approach to protecting the quality of life of pedestrians and drivers.

In particular, during the period in question, 1,143 vehicles were checked in the region of Attica (including 117 motorcycles) and 15 misdemeanors were recorded, 294 administrative fines were issued except for parking, 80 regarding parking, for a total of 389 violations and 301 driver violations. Of these, among others, four related to excessive speed, also four to red light violations. 10 dangerous maneuvers, 47 not using a seat belt, while 30 in noise violations. The other violations amount to 262.

With regard to excessive alcohol consumption, 63 checks were carried out and 28 violations were detected with 14 in the range of 0.10 to 0.40, 12 in the range of 0.25 to 0.40 and one violation for 0.25 to 0. 60 and 0.60 and above.

In total, license plates were removed from 67 vehicles, 50 driver’s licenses and 57 traffic permits, while OEPTA proceeded to immobilize 29 vehicles.

The Minister of Citizen Protection, Mr. Yiannis Oikonomou stated:

“The Hellenic Police remains committed to the protection of society by implementing a holistic action plan that extends from the protection of drivers and pedestrians to the prevention and treatment of all criminal behavior. During the Christmas period, the Attica Traffic Directorate carried out numerous checks on the roads of the Attica Region, in order to detect violations and behaviors that threaten our daily life. The presence of the Traffic Police on the roads has increased and will increase even more in the future. It regulates, monitors, punishes aggressive driving behavior and urges drivers to comply with the Road Traffic Code.
