The project of the bioclimatic regeneration of the center of Chalandrio begins shortly, after the signing of the relevant contract (December 28) by the mayor Simos Roussos and the representative of the contractor company, after the necessary approvals of the legality of all procedures by the Court of Auditors.

The project has secured funding of 6,185,000 euros from the Recovery & Resilience Fund, (by ministerial decision from 31.12.22) and its study has been approved by the Central Council of Architecture, in April 2022.

The planned interventions are expected to completely change the image and mobility in the city center.

In particular, these relate to:

â–º Reconstruction of sidewalks 36,000 sq.m.

â–º Creation of 150 ramps for the disabled and 10,000 m of blind routes.

â–º Underpassing sidewalks (150)

â–º Creation of 199 mock parking spaces and 6 smart crossings.

â–º Installation of 163 new LED lights with remote control, two smart rest stations (smart benches), 8 smart information stations (infokiosks) and 2 digital signage screens (digital signs)

â–º700 new plantings

Regarding the final upgraded image that Chalandri will soon present, the mayor Simos Roussos pointed out:

“Redevelopment in the shopping center of the city, in conjunction with the road safety improvement project in Ag. Paraskevi, the construction of the new town hall and the underground parking lot, the renovations that include the Hadrian Aqueduct project, together with the hiking routes that are formed around the center and end up in it, create a completely different image for Chalandri”, he commented the mayor of Chalandrio and concluded:

“All of the above projects will significantly improve accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, disabled and disabled peoplewill strengthen small and medium entrepreneurship and will substantially upgrade the quality of life of the residents of the center”.
