A “Love Walk” was organized last night by 20 taxi drivers for 58 of our elderly fellow citizens, who toured around festively decorated Athens.
The initiative belongs to Nikoletta Villiou and Manolis Grizas, motorists and presenters of the web show “TaxiNomoi” and to the Attica Taxi Motorists Union (SATA) and was implemented with the help of the Municipality of Athens.
“It is an offer of the taxi drivers to a category of people who do not have the opportunity to see the bright, happy days of the city lights, for people who have objective difficulties and cannot enjoy them like the rest” underlined M. Grizas .
The action was attended by 28 people from the Athens Nursing Home and 30 from the Friendship Clubs of the Municipality of Athens in the Plato Academy and in Kypseli. A group of caregivers and executives of the Athens Nursing Home as well as the Deputy Mayor of Active Aging and Friendship Clubs Ms. Olga Dourou participated in the motorcade that started from the Athens Nursing Home.
The solidarity route included Vasilissis Sofias, Panepistimiou, Omonia, Stadiou streets ending at Syntagma Square. In front of and behind the joy caravan, motorcyclists of the municipal police took care of the smooth running of the action. A SATA delegation was waiting for them in the square as well as the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Police Thomas Georgiadis. Mrs. Marianthi Kosmas, public relations manager of the union, distributed commemorative gifts to the participants.
“We gathered today here at the Syntagma following the invitation of SATA and the Taxonomists, so that we could celebrate together with people from the Athens Nursing Home and the Friendship Clubs, see the decorated Athens and wish a happy birthday. It is one of the actions with which the new year and the new municipal authority begin. We promise that this is only the beginning and that there will be much more,” said Olga Dourou, Deputy Mayor of Active Aging and Friendship Clubs.
“It is a very beautiful event with the support of SATA, whom we thank very much for this walk of love for the elderly, for the 3rd age that the municipality wants to support and to honor them and be happy during these festive days said Thomas Georgiadis, Deputy Mayor of Municipal Police and Public Common Spaces.
