The preparation of a traffic study for the elevated highway (Fly over) which will select the best possible solutions for the management of the problems that arise and the immediate treatment of the effects was requested by the mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, in a working meeting with the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tahiaos.

As stated in the relevant announcement of the Municipality, Mr. Angeloudis set as an absolute priority the major issue of mitigating the consequences of the start of the construction of the elevated highway.

In addition, for the immediate redevelopment of the public space and the restoration of accessibility and road safety conditions, Mr. Tachiaos agreed at the same meeting (5/1/24) with the satisfaction of the request for emergency funding of corresponding interventions in all municipal communities of the Municipality Thessaloniki.

According to the announcement of the municipality, Mr. Tachiaos also assured “for the assistance of the Ministry with extraordinary additional funding for the opening and construction of M. Psellou Street and the transfer station for urban transport, a project that is of vital importance for access to the terminal of the Metro in S. Switzerland. At the same time, the implementation – again with the assistance of the Ministry – of the overall plan for the reconstruction of the entrance of the city from the east was discussed at length”.

Furthermore, in the context of the equitable and balanced development of the city, it was agreed to include in the new agenda for the city three projects of exceptional importance and common interest, the promotion of the area of ​​the New Railway Station, the environmental upgrade of the Old Railway Station and the project of the railway connection of the 6th Wharf of the ΟΛTH, which will be discussed at length in a broad meeting that will be planned at the initiative of the Mayor.
