Northern Greece is in a “white line” since heavy snowfall is progressively occurring in cities and villages from Thessaly and above.

It has been snowing since early this morning in the massif of Pelion, with the drop in temperature being noticeable.

The weather pattern will continue to be similar throughout the week, according to forecasters.

Closed schools

Due to the snowfall and low temperatures prevailing in many areas of western Macedonia on Wednesday, January 10, some school units will remain closed while in others the bell will ring an hour late.

More specifically, in the PE of Florina and in the municipalities of Florina and Amyntaio, Primary and Secondary schools will remain closed. Also, the KDAP of the Municipality of Florina will remain closed, while the kindergartens will operate normally. In the Municipality of Prespa, schools will be open from 9.15 in the morning.

In the PE of Kozani and in the municipalities of Kozani and Eordaia, all Primary and Secondary Education units will operate at 09:15.

Also, in Evening Gymnasiums, High Schools, Evening EPAL, the end of classes for the municipality of Eordaia will be at 19:15 and for the municipality of Kozani at 20.00. Municipal kindergartens in both municipalities will operate normally.

In western Macedonia, the movement of vehicles both on the Egnatia road from Kozani to Ioannina and on the vertical axes Siatista – Krystallopigi and Kozani – Customs Nikis (Florina) the movement of vehicles is carried out without problems.

According to the police, chains or snow tires are needed on the provincial road network of Kastoria-Florina (via Vitsi), Kastoria-Ioannina (via Kotyli), as well as on the mountain road network of the Municipality of Nestorio.

In the PE of Florina, anti-skid chains or snow tires are needed on the National Highway of Florina – Border Station Krystallopigi, Florina – Kastoria (via Vitsi), as well as on the provincial road network that connects Florina with the communities of Ano Kleines and Akritas. Chains are also needed on the road to the Community of Nymphaeum.
