Yesterday, a Romanian citizen was convicted in absentia at the Three-member Criminal Court of Volos, who was found guilty of computer fraud.
The defendant was sentenced to 12 months in prison without parole, commutation and no appeal, so if caught he will end up in prison.
On July 28, 2021, the 30-year-old received an SMS on her mobile phone from a Greek bank asking her to click on a link to unlock her account.
The woman pressed it and did not follow up, but at midnight of the same day she received an sms from the bank telling her that the money had been withdrawn from an account she maintained, amounting to €1,200.
Searching through a bank, the sufferer found that three withdrawals of 400 euros were made in one day, which appeared to be a payment to a company.
The victim testified in Court that although she asked the bank to freeze the transactions made from her account, the answer she got was that she could not intervene, because it appeared that they were transactions with the company…
