A personal assistant who will speak 150 languages up to Swahili will make appointments through gov.gr from identity cards to vaccines
With a message in the mobile phone wallet from next month, citizens will be able to change their energy company and their tariff – if they so wish. That’s what he announced the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, on his radio interview on Parapolitika Fm.
As he characteristically said, “we are already working with the Ministry of Energy and Environment on the process so that this change can be made with a message in the wallet if the interested party clicks “yes”.
Just like about 1.5 months ago we were talking about myAuto, a package that has already entered our wallet and already more than 100 thousand cars have been “downloaded” to mobile phones”.
In the meantime, Mr. Papastergiou also spoke about the first cross-border interoperability that concerns Greece and Cyprus regarding identity cards, i.e. a Cypriot living in Greece or a Greek living in Cyprus will be able to verify that their police ID is legal and valid.
Reported to the digital assistant of gov.gr, the minister pointed out that from next week he will also be multilingual as he “understands 150 languages, answers in 24 languages, even in various strange languages like Swahili”. But the next step is that in the first half of 2024 it will start not only to inform us but to do the first things for us such as making an appointment for a vaccine or, to issue an ID, download the E9 at our request.
Mr. Papastergiou reiterated that the wallet will be the only means by which citizens will interact with the State and underlined that the wallet is expected to include professional features as “we ask the professional bodies to open their registers to us so that we can start to we go through all these procedures”, adding that for the passport to enter the wallet there must first be a common European platform.
Regarding mobile telephony, the minister emphasized that “we will see the competition working and I believe that from the first half of 2024 we will have better speeds and prices for the consumer”.
About the postal vote he emphasized that “a register is being created for the people who will declare that they want to vote by mail and so we are going to build these bases with the Ministry of the Interior. But it is a first class opportunity to “clean” our records”.
Regarding DAIDALOS, he noted that it is “the most visionary and optimistic thing for technology in Greece, it is a very large and fast machine that helps in research with artificial intelligence, it will generally help to create beyond the public cloud, to start to acquire our own infrastructures for data storage”.
