Football player Giorgos Zagliveris, who was fighting for his life with a rare form of cancer, passed away early on Monday. The news of the 30-year-old’s death spread mourning in his hometown, Serres.

THE George Zagliveris he had Burkitt’s Lymphoma, which starts in specialized immune cells called B cells.

It is characterized by a genetic change called a translocation involving the MYC gene. This genetic change allows cancer cells to divide and create new cancer cells very quickly.

The deceased had previously worn the jerseys of Doxa Paleokomi, Ari Protis, Aspida Draviskos, AS Evros Soufliou, AO Kavala, while he started at the Olympiakos academies.

His brother, Kostas, said goodbye to him via social media. “Have a good trip my brother, now you’ll be watching over us from up there. We will always remember you smiling like you used to.”
