They are allegedly linked to cigarette smuggling. The heavy indictment includes homicides, robberies, explosions and arson.
One of the dialogues recorded by ELAS, is among one of those arrested for the murdersand specifically the 21-year-old from Thessaloniki with a friend of his. In the dialogue he brags about killing and that he even shot someone recently.

- Friend: You do all this, right?
- 21 year old: Yes me
- Friend: And?
- 21 year old: That’s it
- Friend: How do you feel?
- 21 year old: Very good
- Friend: Well done, well done
On Thursday, the authorities handcuffed figures who play a leading role in organized crime, against the backdrop of the murders of alleged leaders of the domestic mafia.
The arrests relate to the murder of the 55-year-old in Dervenohoria in 2022, of the 38-year-old and his brother-in-law in Korydallos last summer and in an assassination attempt in Pieria.
The arrested are expatriates from countries of the former Soviet Union and allegedly linked to cigarette smuggling.
The research puzzle
The simultaneous police operation in Aspropyrgos and Thessaloniki led to the arrest of two expatriates aged 39 and 21 from former Soviet countries for:
- the murder of Yannis Skaftouros in Dervenochoria and the attempted murders of his daughter and his brother-in-law in April 2022,
- for the double murder of Vassilis Roubetis and his brother-in-law Dionysis Mouzakitis, in Korydallos last June,
- for the arson attack also in June at the gas station of Skaftouros’ son in Aspropyrgos, – for an arson attack on a warehouse of their opponent at the same time, which operated as an illegal cigarette factory
- for the attempted murder of a 47-year-old expatriate last July in Pieria.
Meanwhile, at the last minute, police caught up with a 40-year-old Georgian executioner of the organization before he fled abroad. He was stopped in Ioannina on November 30, while he was traveling by road to Igoumenitsa, in order to leave by liner to Italy. Forged documents of the Armenian authorities were found in his possession.
A conviction was pending against him since 2016aged seven, for thefts.
He was brought to the Katerins Security where they took his DNA, which after some time was identified with orphan genetic material that had been found in the company car in an organization that was monitoring Vassilis Roubetis.
The 40-year-old was taken to Larissa prisons for the conviction and as it emerged from the police investigationparticipated in the murder of Rubetis and his son-in-law, but also in the attempted murder of a 47-year-old expatriate from Uzbekistan in July 2023, in the village of Svoronos, Pieria.
