Today, Sunday, the National Meteorological Service updated the Emergency Weather Worsening Bulletin issued on January 19.
It states in detail:
A. Further decline will occur the temperature (of the order of 6 – 8 degrees Celsius) mainly in the southern parts of the country, while in the northern and central parts, which has already dropped significantly, will be kept at low levels, with locally strong frost in the evening hours of Sunday (21-01- 24) and in the morning hours of Monday (22-01-24).
B. Gusty north northeast winds 8 and locally 9 Beaufort will blow today Sunday (21-01-24) across the Aegean. Gradually from noon on Monday (22-01-24) they will weaken to 8 Beaufort, initially in the north and from the evening hours also in the rest of the Aegean.
C. Heavy rains and storms will occur today Sunday (21-10-24) until the late afternoon in the eastern Aegean islands and until the night in Crete and the Dodecanese.
D. Snowfall will occur:
a) Today Sunday (21-01-24) in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Thessaly and Central Greece, in the highlands of Peloponnese and Evia and from the afternoon in the highlands of Crete, generally sick. The snowfalls occurring in northern Greece will soon stop.
b) On Monday (22-01-24) light local snowfalls will occur in the mountains of Sterea, Evia, Peloponnese and Crete, which from noon will gradually be limited only to the mountains of Crete.
Calls to the fire department for falling trees
A limited number of calls have been received for Attica by the Operations Center of the Fire Brigade due to the deterioration of the weather and the prevailing strong winds. In particular, from early in the morning until now, the Fire Department was called for falling trees in areas such as Neo Heraklion, Pallini, Hippocrates Politia, Agia Paraskevi.
The operational plans have been implemented to deal with the risks of snowfall and floods as well as their accompanying phenomena due to the deterioration of the weather and in the context of the operational preparedness of the Fire Department.
The Fire Services of the areas where the phenomena are expected to manifest, have been placed in a state of increased readiness and further escalation if required, in order to immediately deal with any problems from the manifestation of intense weather phenomena.
No sailing
The prohibition of sailing from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio is in force, due to the strong winds in sea areas, which reach 9 Beaufort in places in the Aegean, according to the National Meteorological Service.
There are also no hydrofoil routes for Argosaronicos.
The Ag connections are closed. Marina – Styra, Volos – Sporades, Kavala – Prinos Thassos and Alexandroupoli – Samothraki.
According to the port authority, the morning route will be operated only on the Keramoti – Limenas Thassos line.

Road traffic is restored after the snowfall
The situation on the roads of Western Macedonia is improving after the heavy snowfall during the evening hours
The General Police Directorate of Western Macedonia will proceed with the lifting of the ban on the traffic of all lorries, with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons, along Egnatia Street, from Polymylo Kozani to Panagia Grevenon.
The “green light” for the traffic of car trucks is also given on the vertical axes, Siatista – Krystallopigi and Kozani – Florina – Nikis Customs, while the traffic of trucks is also allowed on the Kozani – Larissa National Road. Snowfalls began to recede in the early hours of the morning, while at this time they have stopped in most lowland areas of western Macedonia, sparse snowfall prevails only in the mountains, especially above 1200 meters altitude.
The movement of vehicles on Egnatia road and on the vertical axes is carried out normally, while chains or special snow tires are needed in some parts of the mountainous provincial network of Kozani, Florina, Grevena and Kastoria. From the Civil Protection of the Region of Western Macedonia, drivers are advised to be especially careful regarding the slippery roads because the temperatures that will prevail throughout the region will be well below zero.
The General Regional Police Directorate of Western Macedonia announces that it is mandatory to equip cars of all categories with anti-skid chains or other similar anti-skid means.
Transportation is also carried out in Trikala without problems. According to the deputy governor, Mrs. Chryssa Didi, 40 machines of the P.E. Trikala are located in the areas where it has snowed.
