After the 34 migrants who were transported at dawn to Kalous Limenes, in the same bay in the area of the Municipality of Phaistos, the 73 migrants who were spotted by a cargo ship, which collected them from a sea area south of Crete, are expected within the next few hours, as they had emitted distress signal from the ship they were on.

Initially, there was a plan for them to board ships of the coast guard off the coast of Agia Galini, however the weather conditions and strong waves did not allow it, with the authorities proceeding to another area, where this finally became possible.

“We were informed that the 73 migrants will come to Kalous Limenes and we have already made sure that they are here, both a new Red Cross team for first aid, as well as buses to transport the people to Heraklion,” he told APE-MPE Deputy Mayor of Civil Protection of the Municipality of Phaistos Antonis Konstantoulakiswho wanted personally but also on behalf of the Mayor Grigoris Nikolidakis to thank those who help in this effort.

“The cooperation with the Central Port Authority of Heraklion, the Police, the Red Cross, as well as the SEKA company that hosts the immigrants in its premises in Kalous Limenes, is an excellent cooperation and this I cannot fail to point out” said Mr. Konstantoulakis .
