Intensive checks are carried out by ELAS in vehicles in the northern suburbs of Athens for anti-skid chains as drivers are obliged to carry, while the state apparatus is on alert in view of the worsening weather.

It is noted that by decision of the Traffic Director of Attica, from 22:00 on Monday night (29/1) cars of all categories must be equipped with anti-slip chains or other similar anti-slip means, as long as these vehicles do not have special tires during their traffic on the entire road network of the prefecture of Attica, while in other cases the KOK provides for the penalty of a fine.

It is recalled that, from March 2022, the measure providing for the provision of vehicles with anti-skid chains “or similar anti-skid means suitable for the vehicle” from October 1st to April 30th of each year is in force “and when the prevailing conditions require it.”

The fine for those who do not have anti-skid chains or snow tires and snow tires is 80 euros.
