Detailed video from the ministry on how to move in low temperatures
Informative video and useful instructions for road safety, as part of measures to protect drivers and passengers from snowy and icy roads, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced.
THE responsible for the transport sector Deputy Minister Christina Alexopoulousaid about it:
“In view of the very low temperatures expected for some winter days, such as those already brought by bad weather and snow, we urge our fellow citizens to follow the advice of road safety experts, which we have incorporated in the summary video we have published. Frosty days and snowy surfaces require special attention both for the driver and passengers as well as for the proper operation of the vehicles. So let’s follow these simple and useful instructions, for the good of us all.”
In particular, on days with snow, ice or low temperatures, the following are important for our road safety:
-We anticipate that additional traction is needed (chains or snow blankets) and place them securely before sliding.
-We don’t stop after we slip, to put on chains obstructing traffic.
-We put chains on the drive shaft. In front four-wheel drive to have a steering wheel.
-On a snowy surface, a two-wheel drive car with winter tires moves more safely than a four-wheel drive car with summer tires.
– The use of winter tires is recommended at temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius.
– Summer tires do not offer sufficient traction on snow, ice.
– We avoid traffic at night or early in the morning because frost is possible.
-We assess situations, react gently, steering wheel, brake, gas.
-We do not take risks, nor do we venture without proper training.
-On icy surfaces, avoid pressing the brake or accelerator.
-We de-snow the ramps and the car while the snow is fresh.
