The Emergency Weather Deterioration Bulletin issued on 27-01-2024/1100 is updated according to the latest forecast data.

High pressure in the northwestern Balkans combines with low pressure in the eastern Mediterranean and causes gale force winds, locally heavy rainfall in the southern parts of the country and snowfall from Thessaly and further south.
The severe weather system in question has been named ‘AVGI’ by the EUMETNET South-East Mediterranean team.

More detail:

A. Snowfalls will be noted:
a) Eastern Continent: Today Tuesday (30-01-24) in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, but temporarily also in areas with a lower altitude, mainly in Viotia, with a gradual weakening of the phenomena from the evening hours.
b) Euboea: Today Tuesday (30-01-24) in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas but also in areas with a lower altitude. Snowfalls that will temporarily be dense in places from the evening hours will gradually weaken.
c) Attica: Today Tuesday (30-01-24) in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas and in the north in lower altitude areas with weakening from the night.
d) North and East Peloponnese: Today Tuesday (30-01-24) in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, possibly temporary and in areas with a lower altitude.

The snowfall from the morning hours of Wednesday (31-01-24) will weaken.

e) Crete: Today Tuesday (30-01-24) intense in places in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas with a gradual weakening of the phenomena from the afternoon of Wednesday (31-01-24).
B. Very gale force north northeast winds 9 and locally 10 Beaufort will blow:
a) Today Tuesday (30-01-24) in the north, the central and gradually the southern Aegean.
b) Her Wednesday (31-01-24) the stormy north winds will be maintained in the Aegean but from the midday hours in the north they will be limited to 8 Beaufort and will gradually weaken.
C. Heavy rains and storms are forecast in places today Tuesday (30-01-24) mainly in the Sporades, Evia, the eastern parts of Attica, the Cyclades and Crete.

The phenomena will weaken from the early morning hours of Wednesday (31-01-24) in the Sporades, Evia, eastern Attica and the Cyclades and gradually from the afternoon hours in Crete.
