Diesel vehicles in Greece lost a large market share within a year. From 21.7% in January 2021, they fell to 14.5%, following the general downward trend that prevails throughout Europe, where the market share last month was 19.7%.
The low percentage of sales of diesel vehicles shows to a large extent the concern of the citizens for the future that this category will have. Now the corporate markets are the ones that keep the category alive, as this type of fuel is considered the most ideal for many, outside cities, kilometers.
Sales of gasoline-powered vehicles also decreased slightly (2.3%), and in this category there is a concern about what will happen from 2030 onwards, where the measures banning the sale of conventional cars will be implemented. The lost ground of sales was gained by the hybrid cars that recorded an increase of another month (3.6%) in January, making a total of 25.8% of total sales.
The sales of electric cars (including plug in hybrids) moved the same upwards, but with a smaller percentage, recording an overall increase of 1.5% and reaching 6.5% of the total sales share.
The sharp rise in the price of liquid fuels in recent months has turned a large portion of buyers to the choice of a new dual fuel car. Given that the price of LPG and natural gas is cheaper, there was an increase of 5.1%, reaching a total of 6.5% of total sales.
Favorite category remained the B category, which combines space and ease of movement within the city, with SUVs to attract the eyes of most. They managed to increase their share from 18.8% they held in January 2021 to 30.5% the previous month, while the category manages to get 52.5% of the total sales volume. That is, more than one in two Greeks choose a car from this category, showing once again that they want to have a car for all uses, rejecting the choice of a second vehicle.
Finally, sales of categories A and C decreased slightly (1.5% and 0.2% respectively), while sales of cars belonging to category D (0.1%) increased marginally, reaching 0, 9% of total sales.
