Shortly after 4 o’clock this Wednesday afternoon, dozens of Larisa farmers walked up the new national road at the height of the Platykambos interchange.

The mobilization took place after negotiations with the authorities, in the presence of strong police forces.

The president of the United Federation of Agricultural Associations of Larissa, Mr. Rizos Maroudas, emphasized: “Last night we decided to coordinate all the blocks of Thessaly and to symbolically close the national road to highlight the big problems we have and to demand substantial and quick solutions on the part of the government. Therefore, implementing the decision of the Panthessal meeting and the committee of the blocs, we are here today in the e.o. but also on E-65 and in other places. They are constantly blocked outside of Thessaly and this is the phase where the government is under pressure. I believe that this struggle of ours for survival and especially for Thessaly which has been hit by the floods, will be vindicated and we will be able with the power of tractors, massiveness, unity and determination to impose solutions in our favor. We will continue. On Saturday there will be a big rally inside the Agrotica area. we will join forces with our colleagues from Macedonia. It is our constitutional right to express our protest on the highway and with a tractor. The government should review. Farmers across Europe are protesting without being confronted by repression and the police.”

“Thessaly, our cities are all agricultural and livestock. From this step, I call on the rest of my colleagues to be here and support the farmers, not only at the polls, but also at the races, that’s where we measure up,” said the Mayor of Tyrnavos, Mr. Stelios Tsikritsis.

“We support the government and all of Greece. Right now Thessaly and the rest of the rural world is bleeding. We call on the government to close wounds, if it wants to, it can” said the agricultural trade unionist, member of the Greek Farmers’ Struggle Committee, Giorgos Mahas, stressing that the 10 thousand euros announced by the prime minister are not enough for the case of Thessaly, while the letter to him is ready and expected to be sent within a few hours with requests for special care for the Parakarlian farmers and those who have lost their homes and production. He explained that they will seek a meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself in order to discuss their problems, while he noted that it is not excluded that in the second year they will go to the National team even with a tractor.
