A three-month extension until 6/30/2024, in order to ensure a smooth transition to the labor market, is given to workers with Fixed Term Contracts (SCM) cleaners in public hospitals, by the Ministry of Health.

In his statement the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis after the meeting with the delegation of POEDIN and other trade unions.

who participated in a demonstration outside the Ministry of Health, states that “despite the bad image, in the morning, at the entrance of the Ministry of Health, where unfortunately several participants in the demonstration, not hospital workers, caused a very negative image, I met in my office with the President of POEDIN, Michalis Giannakos, General Secretary Christos Papanastasis and other members of their delegation to submit their requests to me”

After a calm and civilized dialogue, A.Georgiadis continues “we have committed to give cleaners in public hospitals a three-month extension until 30/6/2024, in order to ensure a smooth transition for everyone in labor market”.

We made it clear, however, that the Government’s policy on “outsoursing” in hospitals will continue and be completed, as well as that the country’s constitution prohibits the permanent employment of employees with a fixed-term employment contract, he added.

“I wish that employees are sufficiently informed and make the best choices for their lives. As I pointed out, any worker with SEN who wants to be hired today or during these months as a hospital cleaning contractor, I will see to it that they are hired myself. However, whoever chooses not to be hired, should know that one day his work at the hospital will end,” concluded the Minister of Health.

Finally, he reiterated that the Ministry of Health belongs to the employees of the NHS. “In the morning, I myself ordered the doors of the Ministry to be open, the blinds raised and the police forces to withdraw so that the protesters could approach. For those represented by POEDIN and by all other trade unions of workers in the National Health Service, this Ministry will never be closed.”
