Innocent beyond doubtwere judged two doctors accused of the death, by negligence, a 55-year-old logger, in July 2016, in a private clinic in Thessaloniki.

The unfortunate man, from the area of Edessa, had addressed himself to the clinic, after an injury he suffered with a chainsaw on the little finger of his hand, during carpentry work. After the pre-operative check-up was done, he underwent surgery under general anesthesia, but did not wake up after the operation. His death was attributed to ischemic heart disease, which, as described in the indictment, the doctors had not diagnosed during the pre-operative examination of the victim.

Examining the case in the second instance, the judges of the Three-member Misdemeanor Appeal Court of Thessaloniki acquitted the two doctors (the first is a cardiologist and the second an anesthesiologist), maintaining doubts about their guilt. At first instance they were sentenced to 2 years in prison, with a 3-year suspension. An orthopedic surgeon was acquitted in the first degree for the same case.
