“In Crete, projects will be implemented that had not been implemented for decades”, said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikourasin Amari Rethymnon continuing his visit to Crete.

Mr. Staikouras, who together with the Deputy Minister, Nikos Tahiao and the Minister of Infrastructure, Kostas Magoulas,today they visit emblematic projects carried out on the island, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Defense, Yiannis Kefalogiannis and the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis, referred to the Platis Potamos Dam, with a budget of 200,000,000 euros, noting that the announcement of the project can be made in 2024 and confirming that on February 16 it will be co-signed by the relevant ministers the financing contract, together with the European Investment Bank and the Bank of the Council of Europe.

“This is an important one flood control project, which from the signing of the contract, which we estimate can be done in 2024, 45,000 acres will be irrigated and will be implemented within five years”, emphasized Mr. Staikouras, pointing out that at the same time and additionally “the studies he requested have progressed the local community and the self-government for reservoirs over 3,000,000 euros”. “In Amari, the implementation of a very important project concerning the water supply of the whole of Rethymnon will begin, with the latest implementation date in 2027 and an amount of 24,000,000 euros”, he added.

“We came to talk with specific milestones and with specific schedules”, underlined the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, who, in his statements, also referred to the projects of the Courthouses in Heraklion and Rethymnon, noting: “February 12 is the final date for the submission of offers from the private sector, in order to build a new Courthouse in Heraklion and also the reconstruction and renewal of the Courthouse in Rethymnon, with a total budget of 70,000,000 euros”.

Heraklion is the next stop of the visit of Mr. Staikouras, who emphasized that the presence in Crete will be continuous and pledged that the goal is, in cooperation with the self-government and local communities, to achieve the best possible result.
