In 2018, the 44-year-old had opened fire with his hunting rifle, fatally injuring the grandmother of the girl who was “besieging” him sexually
The 44-year-old was sentenced to 19 years and 4 months in prison by the Mixed Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki “protagonist” of a murderous episode that took place in September 2018 in Krya Vrysi, Pella, when he opened fire with his hunting rifle, fatally injuring a 69-year-old woman, grandmother of a 28-year-old woman, whom he “besieged” sexually.
The court found guilty the 44-year-old (today) perpetrator for homicide and attempted homicide (serial), acknowledging that he committed the crime in the heat of the moment. Consequently, the charge was changed, with the result that the life sentence imposed on him in the trial court was “broken” (life imprisonment plus an additional 34 years imprisonment). After the judges’ verdict, the 44-year-old returned to prison to serve his sentence.
The murder happened outside the family home of the 28-year-old, while there had been an episode between members of her family and the 44-year-old, who was asked not to deal with the woman anymore. According to the indictment, during the same episode the 44-year-old, with mental health problems, had been the victim of a beating, which seems to have led him to the decision to leave the scene and return a short time later with the carbine.
He behaves himself to fire a total of 9 times and one of the bullets hit the 69-year-old woman, who was killed instantly. Her 28-year-old sister was also injured in the hand by shrapnel from the carbine. Subsequently, the 44-year-old allegedly attempted suicide, while the 69-year-old’s son and two of his friends chased him and beat him, dragging him away with the car driven by the former.
The 44-year-old was hospitalized for months and managed to survive his serious injuries.
For this reason, both the victim’s son and his two friends were charged with grievous bodily harm and sentenced by the court of first instance, the first to 6 years in prison and the others to 4 years in prison (at the Court of Appeal they did not appear to support the appeal).
The Prosecutor of Edra asked for the guilt of the main accused with recognition of mitigating factors, while commenting on the actions of his co-accused he said that “they found him injured and beat him mercilessly”, adding that it was a “gross and extreme case of self-righteousness”.
In his apology, the 44-year-old said, among other things: “When I went there the first time, they cursed me, beat me and kicked me out. I didn’t want to kill, I didn’t mark anyone. My shots were diagonal, not straight. I am very irritable, I get angry very easily and I react without understanding”.
