An absolute majority is required in tomorrow’s vote
The second election process for the appointment of rector at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki ended this afternoon without result, as none of the three candidates for the position gathered the legally required majority of votes of the members of the Institution’s 11-member Board of Management.
The electoral process was carried out by secret ballot and electronically, through the special information system “ZEUS Digital Ballot Box”. Candidates for the position of Rector among the internal members of the Administrative Council of AUTH are, in alphabetical order, the professors etc. Kyriakos Anastasiadis, Efstratios Stylianidis and Charalambos Feidas.
In today’s vote, where a majority of seven out of eleven was required for the appointment of rector (as in yesterday’s first vote, the required majority was 8/11) 10 of the 11 members of the Board of Directors and the professor of the Department of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences Kyriakos voted Anastasiadis received 2 votes, the professor of the Department of Spatial Planning and Development Engineering of the Polytechnic School Efstratios Stylianidis 1 vote and the professor of the Department of Geology of the School of Positive Sciences Charalambos Feidas 6 votes, while there was also 1 blank vote.
The election process will be repeated tomorrow, Wednesday, February 7, 2024, where an absolute majority of all members is required.
